14 trends for Christmas decorations in 2022

The minute details that make Christmas genuinely magical will be the main emphasis of Christmas 2022. It's time to incorporate easy conveniences and endearing family customs into a happy, upbeat environment that promotes warmth, tactility, and togetherness.

According to Dayna Isom Johnson, an Etsy trend expert, “this holiday season, customers are prioritizing personal connections more than ever, and cherishing the communities and relationships that matter most to them.” These partnerships have endured a great deal of change in recent years, making them even more deserving of celebration.

As the country starts planning for the holiday season earlier than ever, John Lewis & Partners has seen a record number of internet searches for Christmas. With the sale of trees up 37% and the sale of packaged ornaments up 10 times from the same period last year, customers are spreading the cost of Christmas.

“We are aware that families have many memorable experiences during the holiday season. Despite the high expense of living, it is evident

1. Nostalgia

As we look forward to a Christmas with more normalcy, we’ll see a return to celebrate the traditional, with red and gold looking to be two of the top trending colors of Christmas 2022; a timeless look that evokes a classic Christmas,’ says Jennifer Derry, interior design expert and Chief Merchandising Officer at Balsam Hill, the market-leader in realistic artificial Christmas trees.

With gold adding elegance and a sense of richness that pays homage to many Christmases past, red will stand out against the green of a Christmas tree because they are complementary colors. Traditions endure for a reason, so for those who are struggling financially this holiday season, investing in a red and gold motif will pay off in the long run.

2. Vintage glamour

This holiday season sees the return of the Roaring Twenties, party dazzle with a vintage note, in a trend not for the faint of heart, according to Jennifer. Dramatic mixed metallics of gold with accents of silver are juxtaposed with the extravagance of beads and feathers as well as crystal garlands that evoke the period’s hedonism. Pairing these decorations with warm tree lights can help you keep them from feeling too cool.

Introduce diverse finishes with textures like capiz shell (a repeating trend), which lends a pearl-like luster, to go with this delicate, vintage, and sophisticated look. And bring it to the table with antique tableware, such as mirrored coasters and tall flute glasses.

3. Gonks

This holiday season, gnomes and hobgoblins from Nordic and Scandinavian mythology have spawned a new phenomenon called “gonks.” Gonks fit wonderfully on stairwells, steps, or beside the fireplace, and shops are significantly broadening their product selection across a variety of color schemes and themes.

4. Nature-inspired

We all understand the advantages of bringing the outside in, so this year, a dash of nature will also be influencing our holiday décor. Homebase’s Refined Nature theme, which combines bright greens and warm caramel tones made from natural materials to create a rustic aesthetic rich in detail, effectively captures this trend. Go big on vegetation and use ornaments and baubles that are inspired by wildlife to nail this style.

5. Laser cut

a laser cut Christmas decorations look beautiful on bookcases, mantelpieces, and when incorporated into table settings.

Light is utilized to etch and cut the material, giving the light wood its recognizable darker edge. Although the decorations are built with cutting-edge technology, they still have a decidedly handcrafted appearance that is reminiscent of a European Christmas market, according to Jennifer.

6. Refined pink

A pink holiday? It’s no surprise that pink hues made the list as a major Christmas decoration trend because they ruled 2022 (hi, Barbiecore) and will skyrocket next year (see out Mylands’ pink-hued Colour of the Year 2023)

7. Mantelscaping

It’s a wonderful reason to try out new decorating techniques thanks to the popular mantelscaping trend; the key is to utilize intelligent style to make your fireplace the room’s focal point. Invest on a Christmas garland without a doubt, and then use ornaments, candles, and fairy lights to stack and play with height.

To add depth to your mantel, Abi advises draping plants around the perimeter. Then, pile tea lights or string lights on top for an entrancing warm glow. For more conventional interior designs, choose ornaments in the traditional red, green, and gold color scheme. For a more contemporary look, choose vibrant pops of color; my personal favorites are the contrasting jewel tones of fuchsia and teal.

8. Jewelled decadence

Whether you want to keep your house simple and minimal or huge and flamboyant for Christmas, add more sparkle. It exudes luxury, glamour, and magnificence. Use a color scheme of rich emerald greens, deep purples, ruby reds, and midnight blues to add opulence. To make this style truly sparkle, soften with copper tones, mirrored components, and crystal glass ornaments.

9. Instagrammable door displays

Utilize the trend of doorscaping to improve your curb appeal during the holidays. According to John Lewis, sales of wreaths and garlands have increased 48% year over year as people seek to wow their neighbors with doorstop displays.

10. Colourful brights

Brighter color schemes are trending upward, with rainbow-colored decorations from John Lewis being the most well-liked. According to Lisa Cherry, Lead Christmas Buyer at John Lewis, “It’s been a somber year, so shoppers are eager to rip up the rule book this Christmas and embrace something a little more colorful.”

These vibrant colors are not only a fun and playful way to update your interiors throughout the holiday season, but they are also the ideal mood enhancer.

11. Candy cane

This Christmas, candy canes are king, and modern homes are decorated in the striking yet enduring red and white color scheme. The Range describes this as a “fun and whimsical twist on the American Christmas tale using berry reds, fluffy whites and glittering silvers.”

12. The bedroom

13. Classic winter white

Look to pure whites and neutrals for subtle elegance, coupled with gorgeous linens, tactile cushions, imitation foliage, and a sparkling wreath. This style is one for minimalists, but it is undoubtedly one that works well for Scandi interiors.

According to the Hillarys team, “Calming colors in the home can deliver what many of us will be looking for this Christmas: rest, improved wellness, and that sense of unwinding.” “For a refined finish, layer textured whites with silver or gold sparkles.” This year, cozy throws and blankets with lots of texture are a requirement, especially when viewing a holiday movie in front of the TV.

14. Sustainability

This year, businesses will consciously work to develop their items with green credentials as sustainability will continue to be a key priority. Consider using handmade, artisanal, wooden, recycled glass, and papier-mâché ornaments as well as recyclable crackers and recycled glassware on the Christmas dinner table.
