To save his life, firefighters tore a hole in the wall and took out each brick individually.

Albums, a naughty 3-year-old tabby cat, got himself very stranded one day while out exploring – in a narrow space between two buildings.

The owner of the business building saw the poor cat, who was trapped between a structure and an outer wall, and he quickly called the RSPCA for assistance. Albums was trapped between two walls that were each about ten feet high, and since he was 8 feet deep on either side, no one could get to him. Albums was obviously having difficulty breathing because the area was so small, and rescuers were aware that they needed to go quickly.

According to a press statement from Julie Parsons, an animal collection officer with the RSPCA, “Poor Albums was stuck very tightly between two walls with about a 4-inch gap.” Nobody understood how he initially managed to blend in.

The local fire department was called to come and help as well as the rescuers immediately realized they would need a little more support. Because of where Albums was positioned, the firefighters had to cut a hole in one of the walls, which required taking individual bricks out of the wall one at a time.

Time was of the essence, Parsons recalled. “He was struggling to breathe where he had wedged himself so tightly between the walls.” Firefighters had to remove each brick separately and catch them so they wouldn’t fall on top of the man and damage him because of his posture.

Rescuers were finally able to bring the daring cat out of the hole and into their arms after spending hours meticulously creating a hole the size of Albums. He appeared to be in good health other than the fact that he was very dusty and had a lot of dirt in his eyes. Rescuers were able to track down his mother, who also happens to be a veterinarian, after scanning him for a microchip, so they knew he would be in safe hands.

“Having mummy as a vet meant we could leave Albums with her and she treated his eyes and kept a watch on him overnight,” Parsons said. “It’s great when a rescue like this has such a happy ending and I was delighted to reunite Albums with his owner.”
