“They were huddled together and cowering …”

When a volunteer was recently approached by a man who claimed to have dogs he wanted to turn over, the doors of Detroit Animal Care and Control hadn’t even opened for the day. When the volunteer asked him to wait while she went inside to get some papers, he had already left. The volunteer looked about perplexed and then noticed them: two puppies chained up in the play area of the shelter, quivering next to a fence.

A spokeswoman from Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control told us that they were “huddled together and cowering.” “Absolutely afraid.”

Rescue workers searched every inch of the shelter’s grounds, fearing that there may have been further puppies abandoned by the man.

A Detroit Animal Care and Control employee posted on Facebook, “Instead of an Easter egg hunt, our staff at DACC went on a hunt for dumped puppies.”

Staff members brought the puppies inside and provided them with food and water after making sure there were no other canines in the neighborhood. The puppies eagerly started munching because it was obvious they were starving. When they were finished, they started to explore. They quickly were at ease, settling in to the shelter and taking advantage of everything fun it had to offer.

The representative said that “they are doing much better.” “[They] were excited to eat and get their toys out.”

The dogs eventually found their way to Loving Hands Pet Rescue, where volunteers arranged for their ongoing care in a foster home and started looking for their forever homes.

Zeus, the brown puppy, has already located his family.

Zeus will be “beyond loved and spoiled” according to Loving Hands, who posted on Facebook that he is the ideal addition to their family.

The other puppy, who has since been given the name SpongeBob, is still looking for his ideal home.

Loving Hands stated in a post that “SpongeBob loves to play with other puppies and kids both outside and with toys.” He is doing well with toilet training and goes outdoors to use the restroom.

These puppies are now protected and cared for, and they can rest easily knowing they won’t ever be abandoned again.
