One day, a Serbian guy who often volunteers to feed stray dogs in his village came across a small, abandoned puppy that immediately touched his heart. The father was unable to leave the pup behind because she was malnourished and living in a shoe.
When 48-year-old Goran Marinkovic discovered the small dog—now known as Coco—on the streets of Kraljevo two years ago, the weather was chilly.
Goran heard cries as he was moving along a confined, litter-strewn lane and followed them to a depressing scene. A little puppy with black and yellow fur sat by itself next to a solitary black sneaker. Goran surmised that the puppy was using the shoes as cover while her mother was away.
“That’s how I found her,” he said to The Epoch Times.
“Hungry, cold, and wet,” he described her as being. She ate the salami that Goran gave her before rolling over next to the shoe and submissively exposing her belly.
The heartbreaking scene was captured on camera by Goran, who later posted some of the images to Facebook with the caption: “The shoe can be useful to her to cover from the rain and the sun. I stumbled into this [dog] after it had been thrown out in the trash. If we could find her someone who could take care of her and would want to, that would be lovely.
Goran scooped up Coco because he couldn’t leave her alone and took her to the vet to be examined. He wasn’t certain if she had the strength to live.
The puppy was still very much alive, though.
In an effort to locate Coco the ideal forever home, Goran posted pictures of Coco’s rescue and subsequent rehabilitation on Facebook. He combed through applicants to identify a suitable adoptive family, but after developing a close bond with her, he turned to his friends who work in international rescue for assistance in finding the right family.
He made it big. Coco was transferred to Germany once she had received her immunizations. She is now a joyful, active puppy living her best life in a caring family because of Goran’s great heart and good deeds.
Goran replied, “She has a lovely home to enjoy. “Every street dog I save and place in a home is a victory for me.”
Between 90 and 110 stray or abandoned dogs are being fed daily by Coco’s rescuer, who hopes that by telling others about Coco, they would be inspired to do what they can to help.
Animals should not be abandoned on the street since they are living things, he continued. “I simply want to awaken people’s conscience so that such cases do not occur again.”
