It’s not always as simple as people might imagine to adopt a rescued animal. Putting the animal at peace involves a lot of care, comprehension, and communication.

Additionally, these animals almost always have histories of suffering or cruelty, necessitating specialist care before they are prepared to join a forever family.

Lou’s new owners were informed when they got him from a shelter that he had come from an abusive owner and would need some time to adjust. They nevertheless welcomed him with wide arms despite this, but they were unable to communicate with him on their own. At that point, they got an insight: all he required was

Lou was a very timid Italian greyhound who avoided other dogs and strangers when he was first brought to the home of his new adopted owners. The shelter had informed his new family that he might experience such a reaction, and they were unsure of what they could do to assist him.

The family knew full well that Lou needed to experience something new and special if he was ever going to come out of his shell the way that they were hoping he would. Unfortunately, getting through to him was difficult. That’s when they had a novel idea—one that was typically reserved for jet-setters and celebrities.

Lou’s family decided to take him to their home in the Hamptons for a ritzy vacation! There was also a special someone they wanted him to meet. They figured that he would be able to relate to this character and gain his trust, which would then make it easier to transition into trusting them. Soon after they arrived at Amagansett, Lou got to meet his new friend: a bulldog named Buddha! And while things might have started off tense, they could’ve never anticipated the reaction between the two…

Lou was, naturally, shy at first, as both his adoptive family and the shelter staff anticipated he would be. Not long after, though, they got a glimmer of hope after he slowly seemed to be warming up to Buddha. Things were looking better than they’d expected…

It was clear from that moment on that Lou had taken a special liking to Buddha! His family even noticed that he would start to follow Buddha around the strange new place that was going to become his forever home. Buddha was not only a best friend, but a tour guide!

Pretty soon after, Lou and Buddha were just like old comrades! They would even lounge together outside, soaking up the rays and working on their suntans. Clearly, Lou’s family had made a good decision by bringing him to meet Buddha.

After getting acclimated with his surroundings for a couple of days, the family decided they wanted to test the waters even more—literally. They had the idea to bring Lou to the beach for the first time ever in his life. Just look at him admiring the view!

Lou’s family was sure to take lots of photographs of him to properly document the momentous occasion. See how happy he looks feeling the warm sand underneath his paws? He clearly was made to soak up the sun every day. Lou was a bona fide beach dog!

Now that he was out of the animal shelter and—more importantly—his former abusive home, it was clear that Lou was just an average, happy-go-lucky pup who loved doing nothing more than to kick back and relax. From the looks of it, he just wanted to work on his tan all the time! Can you blame him?

When Lou got home from his first day ever at the beach, he just curled up in his bed and fell asleep, exhausted from his weekend of fun. He was finally getting to experience what it was like to be a dog with a loving and adoring family—one that had a beach house in the Hamptons, no less!

The photographs Lou’s adoptive family took in the following months truly depict how happy he was with with his brand-new life. He couldn’t help but smile every single time they brought out the camera to snap a picture!
