Many cat owners are well aware that they are merely residing in their cat’s world. The family of Nanoos, a fiery orange cat who essentially despises everyone—especially children—finds this to be especially true.
According to Nanoos’ mother Reem Mohammad, “My cat hates everyone,” she told The Dodo in 2022. She despises people. She despises other creatures. She despises me. She despises anything that basically breathes.
But out of all those things Nanoos despises, children are unquestionably her worst adversary. She really despises them, Mohammad replied. She dislikes happiness, and I believe it is due of their innocence and happiness.
Nanoos’ grandfather is the only person who can make her heart softer. Although Mohammad doesn’t understand why her sour cat chose to show her dad just tenderness, their closeness is apparent.
My dad would be the only person she would adore, Mohammad added. He just so happens to be that one guy, and I have no idea why.
A year later, when Mohammad and Nanoos reconnected, Mohammad revealed that Nanoos had actually softened and had a less negative outlook.
“There has been so much progress, but Nanoos’ behavior is still somewhat the same!” said Mohammad. “There have been positive changes since working with [cat behaviorist] Jackson Galaxy and following his advise! She and I play a lot more now. She doesn’t play back frequently, but when she does, it’s wonderful! Sometimes I can even hold her without getting bit or scratched!”
Perhaps someday Nanoos will realize that cuddles and kisses aren’t so bad. But for now, she’s perfectly happy biting, scratching and keeping her family on edge — and luckily, they love her just as she is.
