“He would circle the same three streets over and over again …”
Residents of a neighborhood in Southern California recently observed a large dog circling a neighboring highway and some local streets. Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue, was contacted right away for assistance. She could tell by the puppy’s demeanor that he wasn’t a stray.
“He definitely did have a home before,” Hall told The Dodo. He would repeatedly circle the same three streets, which is what happens when someone dumps them—they remain in the area where they were left.
Despite all their efforts, the dog avoided everyone’s rescue attempts. Sometimes, he’d run down an adjacent street to hide from the Good Samaritans trying to apprehend him. The dog would occasionally walk toward the highway and halt anyone who was following him.
He would turn around after ascending the entrance ramp, according to Hall. “I was so afraid he was going to get back on the freeway, but thankfully he came back down,” the speaker said.
When Hall arrived, she made the decision to attempt a different strategy: rather than pursuing the dog to trap him, she would allow him the room he required while keeping an eye on his routines. Hall was able to locate his hiding place and determine the ideal location for her humane trap. She believed that if it was on his terms, he would be more willing to enter.
Even though Hall was already depressed by the dog’s prolonged solitude, her heart hurt even more as she observed him wandering around the neighborhood.
He was ravenous, Hall remarked. He would enter the yards where the cat owners kept their pets and eat cat food before moving on to drink gutter water.
Soon after, Hall discovered where the dog spent the night, and she placed her trap there with enticing food and high expectations. She watched with anticipation as the pup approached the trap, and her heart fell seconds later as he sniffed the food and walked away.
The rescue crew led by Hall decided to transfer the trap to a different yard for their subsequent attempt. Even though he had his guard up because it was the middle of the night, they believed the dog would feel secure enough to explore the trap a little bit more.
Hall exhaled in satisfaction as the dog was finally caught in her trap. He was secure for the first time in days.
Hall turned around to see the dog, eventually given the name Vader, soundly dozing as they traveled to the clinic together.
“He dozed off without a care in the world. He hadn’t slept a wink during that entire week, Hall added. When they close both eyes because they are safe, that is my favorite part.
Vader entered Camino Pet Hospital after taking a quick nap. At first, he was suspicious of his new buddies, but after they showered him with affection, Vader quickly began to feel at home. Vader entered his very own room at the clinic for some much-needed rest after the doctor gave him the all-clear.
The vet allowed him to stay there for a few nights so that he could unwind, according to Hall. “Then he went with my trainer, who fosters and trains dogs at the same time.”
Vader thrived in his foster home where he was surrounded by other dogs, despite having spent the majority of his life alone before being saved. He didn’t take long to come out of his shell and become a proud new member of
Vader can now be found playing or taking walks with his pack, but his favorite activity is cuddling up to whomever he can get his paws on.
If he could, Hall added, “He’d cuddle someone all day.” He cuddles with everyone of his foster brothers, including the new puppy the trainer recently acquired. He spent the entire day lounging on the couch with that puppy.
It hasn’t been long since Hall saved Vader, but because of the incredible care provided by her staff, his life has been drastically transformed. The adorable dog is still looking for a forever home, but for the time being he will continue to enjoy every day with his new best friends.
