They named her Montana, because that’s where they found her ❤️

During their 10-week cross-country journey, Emily Trost and her boyfriend stopped at a petrol station in Montana. When they returned from a little period of shopping inside, they saw a tiny dog waiting for them next to their car.

According to Trost, “our initial assumption was that she was the pet of someone else using the gas station.” “My partner and I approached other patrons at the petrol station and inquired about her ownership. Along with her, we awaited any potential rescuers to emerge from the gas station shop. Nobody offered to help, and as we waited, we saw how filthy she was—thorns, twigs, and pricklies were all caught in her long hair—and our hearts ached for her.

After some time, a passing motorist stopped, informed the pair that she feeds stray dogs nearby, and pleaded with them to take the small puppy with them. The pair decided they would at least take the puppy with them and perhaps attempt to find a rescue to take her in after hearing her say the puppy was a lovely dog and deserved a nice home. However, after touching the puppy and observing her sweet, expectant face, they both knew that wasn’t going to happen.

“Within minutes of driving away with her in the car, we knew she was coming home with us,” Trost said.

After the state they had discovered the dog in, they chose to call her Montana. Montana may have thought the couple who owned the automobile would care for and feed her for a while when she sat down next to it that day, but she had no idea how lucky she would get.

The happiest day was the morning after we got her, according to Trost. She awoke in our tent and began to whimper as she crawled up to our heads and kissed us. Since no human had likely ever stayed with her for so long, we could see that she was genuinely surprised by our presence.

Little Montana, who was 7 months old, slept a lot the first several days, content to finally have a warm place to sleep with two people she loved. However, once the first shock subsided, Montana’s true character started to emerge, and she developed into the happiest, silliest, most busiest dog her parents had ever met. She took sure to be on her best behavior to convey to her parents how appreciative she was that they chose her, and she adored every minute of the road trip with her new family.

Trost remarked, “She adored the rest of the trip, always eager to trek and swim with us. She slept soundly in the car and was nice to have around. She even enjoyed spending every night in the tent and immediately understood that wherever our tent was pitched was home.

Trost and her partner were eager to welcome their new addition to their dog family when it was finally time to return home after their trip. Now that she has moved into her new home, Montana is thriving and adores her toys, siblings, and all the attention she is receiving. She can be a little obstinate at times and may act out when she doesn’t get her way, but she is always gaining new knowledge.

Montana now has the best new life, and it’s all because she chose the right car to sit down next to.
