11. Office Christmas Party (2016)

In this wild journey from the Blades of Glory directors, Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn, Jennifer Aniston, Kate McKinnon, and many, many more well-known celebrities celebrate a lowbrow Christmas. The comedy by Josh Gordon and Will Speck features DJ Kool, alcohol, drugs, and an out-of-control company holiday rager.

12. Krampus (2015)

In Michael Dougherty’s dream, a lot of the dialogue falls under the “It’s funny because it’s real” category. Yes, Krampus has its roots in Central European legend about a horned demon that punishes misbehavior, but how is it tied to the dysfunction in families and overall contempt for those people? That is, after all, a global theme.

13. Mean Girls (2004)

We may be stretching the truth when we say that Mean Girls is a Christmas movie or that Regina George is a contender for Miss Congeniality. But one thing is certain: “Jingle Bell Rock” is a key scene in holiday-themed movies. And you’ll never need an excuse to see this Mark Waters/Tina Fey collaboration.

14. Elf (2003)

The moment it was released, Jon Favreau’s holiday hit about a man-child elf who loves warm hugs, maple syrup, and ABC gum became an instant classic. If Will Farrell’s antics don’t make you laugh aloud, you might as well be a cotton-headed ninny muggins.

15. Scrooged (1988)

It was the night before Christmas, and everyone in the TV studio was receiving only towels. In Richard Donner’s holiday classic from the 1980s, Bill Murray humbugs his way through three ghostly encounters, doing the old Dickens story justice.

16. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

Aunt Bethany, bless her, is something that everyone can relate to. Watch her and the countless crazy Griswolds who emerge from hiding—and the recreational vehicle parked in the driveway—to celebrate the holidays, and just try to maintain your composure.

17. Bad Santa (2003)

Everyone who wears a Santa suit is, in some way, a con artist. This emotion is elevated in Terry Zwigoff’s Golden Globe-nominated raunch-com, which follows a burglar who poses as the big guy to loot department stores. It’s witty, mischievous, and truly in the spirit of the season—vodka.

18. The Night Before (2015)

Jonathan Levine’s holiday fantasy, a sleeper success of 2015, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie as three guys who can make ugly sweaters seem nice while navigating the hedonistic streets of New York City in search of the Nutcracka Ball. Ilana Glazer as Rebecca Grinch is a bonus.

19. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011)

At the door, check the PC behavior. It is as obnoxious, outrageous, and inappropriate as the dinner conversation you’ll unavoidably have to leave on Christmas day. This stupid-funny stoner comedy brings its namesake protagonists on another foggy trip.

20. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001)

Bridget Jones, who spends her holidays alone, watches syndicated television, drinks red wine, imitates Celine Dion, and dresses in red pajamas, represents each of us at some point. And the laughter continues right up until the end credits.
