Although it may not seem like it, many comedies get their inspiration from actual events. These exceptional movies are more realistic than you may realize.
One of the most popular film genres is comedy. The writers, directors, and performers adore making them because they can have fun while depicting the most unbelievable situations, and the audience likes them because it lets them unwind.
Surprisingly, though, some of the best comedy are based on true stories, some of which occurred lately and others a long time ago. Hollywood is no stranger to producing amazing comedy that are inspired by true events, from unique love stories to crimes.

Catch Me If You Can (2002)
This Steven Spielberg film contains several humorous scenes while not being a pure comedy. Like when the FBI agent Carl Hanratty who is after Frank Abagnale is introduced to him as Barry Allen by Barry Allen himself. One of history’s most skilled con artists, Frank Abagnale was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the film.
He performs more risky stunts throughout the movie, driving Hanratty to despair while occasionally making the audience laugh or grin.

The Big Sick (2016)
Every relationship does not have to begin and go smoothly. Despite the fact that they may easily be described as friends with benefits, Kumail and Emily begin dating in The Big Sick. When Emily becomes ill and falls into a coma (thus the movie’s name), things get even more challenging. The plot was based on the true relationship that Kumail Nanjiani and his partner Emily V. Gordon had, which also featured a medical emergency.
However, Zoe Kazan played Emily in the movie instead of Gordon, and Kumail Nanjiani portrayed himself. It’s unusual for romantic comedies to be inspired by actual occurrences, therefore it always surprises me when one does.

Battle Of The Sexes (2017)
Women’s tennis players weren’t treated with the same respect as they are now in the 1970s. The 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” was won by Billie Jean King over Bobby Riggs, and her victory continues to resonate with audiences today. The casting of Emma Stone as King and Steve Carrell as Riggs in the movie made my task considerably simpler.
The movie has plenty of emotional scenes, but it also has its share of humorous moments. Particularly whenever Riggs shows around because it’s just hard to take him seriously all the time.

Arsenic And Old Lace (1944)
The oldest movie on this list, Arsenic and Old Lace, has established itself as a timeless masterpiece since its debut. Even Cary Grant’s fans of the Frank Capra dark screwball comedy may not be aware that it is based on actual events. Grant portrays a young man who recently got married but is hesitant to see his aunts with his bride. He recently learned that they enjoy murder.
The second section of the story is based on actual events. A place for those who desired to spend the remainder of their lives in peace was run by a woman by the name of Amy Archer-Gilligan. After stealing their money, Archer-Gilligan killed them. Although the precise number of her victims is unknown, she is known to have killed at least 20 individuals. This discovery is made the more unexpected by the movie’s naturally lighter tone.

I Love You Philip Morris (2009)
Prison escape is not an easy feat, but some people have succeeded more than once. Despite the title of the movie, Steven Russell, a smart guy who has successfully escaped from prison numerous times, is the primary character. One of the film’s funniest moments is when he manages to flee.
For instance, when Russell convinced the jail staff that he was about to die. Despite his acts, it’s simple to feel sympathy for Russell because he keeps eluding capture to be with the man he loves. One of the tales that are so bizarre it’s hard to believe something like this actually occurred is Russell’s.

Ed Wood (1994)
Although Edward D. Wood Jr. loved movies, he is now best remembered as one of the worst filmmakers in cinema history. The filmmaker known as Ed Wood has lacked the resources and the ability to produce quality movies. That didn’t stop him from trying, though. In 1994, Tim Burton portrayed Ed’s story, and Johnny Depp played the title part.
The movie is frequently humorous, especially when it depicts Ed’s attempt to make his most recent movie, which ultimately turns out to be equally terrible as the prior one. In spite of this, Ed Wood doesn’t come out as a caricature because it’s simple to relate to him and understand his viewpoint.

Tag (2018)
Jeremy Renner’s role as Hawkeye in the MCU has helped him gain the most notoriety in recent years. Renner did, however, play another amusing action part in this comedy that was based on actual events. A group of buddies who have been playing tag for years are the subject of the story. Only Jerry Pierce, the protagonist played by Renner, hasn’t been labeled yet.

50 First Dates (2004)
Not every romantic comedy based on true events is The Big Sick. 50 First Dates chronicles the peculiar life of a young woman named Lucy (Drew Barrymore). She suffers from a type of amnesia that prevents her from creating new memories and from dating. However, Henry (Adam Sandler) resolves to make it work anyway after falling in love with Lucy. The movie is filled of hilarious mistakes. especially once Henry and the viewer figure out exactly what Lucy’s doing. Although the plot is made up, Lucy was based on a real person. Michelle Philipots’ disabilities from surviving a vehicle accident have prevented her from creating new memories since 1994.

Masterminds (2016)
Heist films frequently straddle the border between humor and action. However, fewer of them are in fact based on true events. The masterminds center on David, a veteran of the war, who consents to assist Kelly, a coworker, in robbing a bank. They actually succeed despite their less than ideal plan, and now they must decide what to do next.
The life of David Ghantt, who attempted to rob the second-largest American bank at the time, served as the basis for the movie. He was ultimately caught by the law, which was unfortunate. The audience should still be able to enjoy the humorous movie despite this. especially if they are fans of comedy stars like Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, or Owen Wilson.

Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016)
Hollywood movies draw inspiration from various sources – books, comic books, games, and in this film’s case, also an actual Craigslist ad. As the name suggests, two brothers need dates for a wedding. To their surprise, they end up taking out two girls who are just as wild as them, if not more. In real life, the brothers were surprised by the large number of answers they got.
Just like in the film, choosing the right dates proved out to be a real challenge for them. The film follows the basic story but it also changed a lot of things about it, most notably what happened at the wedding.
